Me, Myself and I

What am I going to do with all that dry clean only.

Maternity leave ended last week.  I went back into the office to quit.  Tender my resignation.  Stick it to the man.  Claim my freedom.  So why am I the one feeling a little on the low side?

The fucknuttery ran wild at my firm, but damn if I didn't have some fabulous friends there.  I am grateful and lucky to have had them.  I think the Us vs. Them mentality (Cool Kids vs. Senior Management) made the good ones that much better.

Whoa.  Why the past tense there?  I did not do that for effect.  I only caught it when I read my own words back.  I know things will never be the same with my friends and I will miss them.  I really miss them.

Please go stand by my friend K.  She is one of the friends I am taking with me, no matter where I go.  K, you are more precious to me than you know.

  2. Transitions are hard too - and even in a bad job there are good things, like the friends you made there. But how exciting! And I'm sure it was satisfying to tell them you quit.

Thanks for the link to K - just added her to my Google Reader. Definitely in a similar place as her right now.

  5. Dry clean only? Donate that crap! Actually, there may be an organization in your area that provides interview clothes to women coming out of abusive situations - we have one of those here and it's great for getting rid of work clothes and a wonderful cause.

You know what's interesting? When i left my last (I thought career) job for my current path, I thought I would just never be able to have friends like I had there. And I realized that most of my "work friends" were pretty much just "work friends" and that made me sad. It actually took more time to process and get over than I thought. Thanks to fb I'm "friends" with a few of them, but it's not like it was. I hope you are able to keep some of your work friends and transition them to life friends.

And wow. Is all I have to say. I adore you, and I'm so touched. <3 you.

  6. that job never sounded like it jazzed you up. There will be paid work again when you want it, but for now, I am thrilled for you that you will be doing your good work at home with Jay and preschoolerista (is that her new online name?).
Thank you for writing and letting us know what's up, dear Roccie.

  8. I miss my friends at work, too, but not as much as I would be missing my sanity had I stayed. I suspect you will come to this conclusion as well (future tense), if you haven't already.

  9. Save it in case you ever go back? Even if your pantsuits will be totally out of date by then?

Starting a new chapter is always an emotional experience, the good shines brighter than the bad sometimes. I hope the new chapter comes with a host of new friends.

  10. Change is very tough, even the change you WANT. And it's an adjustment to be home nonstop (again, even if it's what our hearts desire). Wish you lived close. We could set up a water cooler somewhere and have a good natter:)
